My Profilux is right next to my dosing pumps and my plugbars - yet each device is connected to the next using a 3 metre cable! Being the sad *** that I am, this bothers me - it keeps me awake at night.

Can I get shorter cables? As in, 6" or 12" or 24" long cables?

pmsl, very good point Ian, i have mine all cabled tied up.

But if they were too short we would moan also.

Would be a good idea if there were a couple of length options.

what type of cables are they, can you not find something on maplins/rs etc that will work?

Yeah, I've just been using cable ties on them - but it still looks untidy (see, told you I was sad).

They look like they might be a "standard" of some description (not network cables but telephone possibly?) in the same way that Aquatronica use USB cables. If that's the case, I'm sure I'll be able to track some down.

They are a 6 way RJ12 connector. i have got longer ones on mine as i am in the different situation where i want to be able to have longer cables, if your look to get one make sure they are straight through cables and not crossover cables and your be fine as the GHL ones are pin to pin leads.

Or if you feel really adventurous you could just by the plugs and crimp tool, cut the lead to size then re-crimp the plug back on.

Splendid :) Thanks for that, John.

I can probably borrow the crimping tool from work, thinking about it - our infrastructure guys make up most of the cables for the office.

Neat wiring - here we come!

I've got a crimping tool and some spare plugs. What I want to know is - is it essential to have the two chokes on the cable? Some of my cables have them, and some don't. But the ones that do have one at each end, close to the connecting plugs. If I was to cut a lead right down to say, 6" long - it would only have one choke on it. Is that a problem?

The chokes are to try to filter out any interference that may be picked up along the cable from things such as static, on a short cable i would personally only use one as i am sure that will be efficient enough, some do not have them at all as the quality of the cable itself is higher and suffer less from this issue.
