Anyone else have problem with high running temperature?

My heater doesn't have to come on, my tank seems to sit at 27 deg, all heat coming from skimmer and original powerheads.

All inverts, corals and fish happy enough as the tank temperature is stable.
I have tried 3 different thermometers and now get reading off ATC300.

I have got the extra fan for summer use but hopefully wont have to buy chiller.

ps The modified surface skimmer works great by the way :applause:

A stable temperature of up to 28C is perfectly acceptable so I would not worry at this stage.

I have the same problem....how is the fan working for you?

I also have a ATC300 on mine and it is stable at 27c

I have an ATC300 fitted and the extra fan connected to it, so should the temp go above 28/29 I can set the time function to trip the fan on for a few hours. The extra fan does bring temp down slightly. Just have to monitor closely as weather warms up.

The original 'noisy' fans as were fitted in the first RSMs had a better flow through and would probably have kept temp down a bit more.

Mine is sat at 25 - 26 degrees without using the extra fan at the minute.

Make sure you don't have any foams pressed up against the pumps as this can add to heat generation due to restricting water flow around the pumps. Also check your ambient temperature and double check the heater

I am also having problem keeping my temps down below 29C. If I leave the lights off for 24 hours and the back flap up the temps drop down to 26C the heater never comes on. I may have a faulty skimmer pump as it is rather noisy which I have emailed steve and interpet about. So it may be this that is causing my heat problems. I am meant to be getting the additional cooling fan from my lfs which was meant to be with the tank when I bought it 4 weeks ago. The new surface skimmer seems to have made a small difference to the heat but much better surface skimming now! :D Hopefully if i can get a new skimmer pump sorted it will get better. I am not sure if it a older pump i have it has the blue plastic bottom on it.

Cheers
