Hi guys,
Right, I've got my new sump on Saturday :) And bought some miracle mud today.
The lfs advised to put a thin layer of sand on top. I've searched over the internet, there doesn't seem to be any clear instructions?
I thought about just putting the mud in the sump, wet it with ro water and leave for 2-3 hours. The switch the pump on.
Would that be correct?
Thanks.
There are instructions in the miracle mud tub - you basically put a 2 inch layer over the sump area (filter area). Place a piece of plastic over the mud and pour tank water onto that. Fill the sump up with water leave lik eyou say for a few hours and then switch the pump on - if you have a valve pull the flow back a bit to prevent a gush of mud into the tank - but you should have bioballs in the baffles to prevent too much grud getting into the main display.

There were no insstructions on the tubs cranners, but many thanks! I now know what to do ;)
This is how I set mine up two inch deep bed bio balls in the first collum. I then gently filled the fuge from a jug via the bio balls and left to sit for a couple of hours. When I opened up the flow I did so slowly and nothing moved. The sand ontop thing comes from mineral mud not miracle I think that it is to stop the loss of mud from flow but am not sure some do it some don,t up to you. Good luck.

Thanks Jiff.
Inside my tub there was instructions. I wouldnt bother with the sand layer. If you have anyone with a mature system you can seed the mud with a few cupfuls of live sand.
Best of luck

the instructions for Miracle mud are for 1" only and no sand on top. Check the ecosystems website: http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/products/miracle-mudr/setup-instructions.html
We use Mineral Mud and that does instruct to put a thin layer of sand on top. I don't think Miracle Mud usually does though.

Adding a layer of sand was the lfs' suggestion... not mine nor miracle mud's!

did the lfs state why? im about to build a refugium and have had the mud sitting in a poly box for a few days with some old tank water, i have thrown in a little sand to help seed it, i too am using miracle mud and wont be putting a sand layer on top so i can only guess the lfs were suggesting the sand to help seed it

He didn't have the 10lb mm, only the smaller one. The larger size was £79!
So I asked that the larger size was excessive for what I need.
He then suggested to buy the 2.2lb and pad out the rest with sand.
My tank is mature anyway, so I wouldn't need to seed the mm.
You can get 10lbs for £45.

I have MM in my sump. Just leg the MM in the sump, wait till its all settled then turn your pump on slowly raising the presure. Rap your pump in filter floss first tho or your tank will end up with loads of bits in it......

Cheers Paul.
I've just received my eheim hobby which has a fitted sponge. Blood* annoying that the seller did not advise that it's a 2pin European plug model!
