Hi has anyone had long term success keeping clams in mud based systems?

the reason that i ask is that on reef central there has been discussion of iron aggravating diseases in clams. I've had two maximas for over a year which have grown and kept theri colour but recently one has detached from its rock and is now on the sand bed.

I know snowsurfer has a few clams in his tank. Not sure he's had them over a year though.Might be worth giving him a shout.

Had 2 maximas and 1 enormous deresa for at least 5 years. Not had any problems other than the deresa getting too big for the last tank!!

I was interested to know whether or not this was an issue for mud systems. On RC people are suggesting that iron based phos removers have been implicated in reducing clams resistance to the protozoa that cause pinched mantle. I have no idea whether or not this is correct or if its an issue for mud users but thought it would be interesting to see if anyone had experienced problems with clams in mud systems.

I keep clams in my mud system, i did have a problem where i lost all my clams in the space of a week a few years back while i was on holiday. It was decided this was down to a recent clam being introduced that had some sort or parasite. I now have 4 clams in there are have had for a year or so, and all growing great and lovely colours.

I had two maximas in a mud based system for 18 months which were fine and grew, albeit slowly, and were sold on along with the tank. I also had a deresa which grew like the clappers in a second mud based system. Again, no problems with it while it was in there either.
