View Full Version : Photo technique advice
Hello
I've been trying to get decent photos of my tank without luck - they come out very poor resolution or poorly lit. I've got a fairly basic Canon digital camera and my husband has a good Canon SLR - we've tried both. I'm guessing its a technique problem as I've seen some fantastic photos on this site.
Any advice on how to optimise settings?? Sorry if this is a v basic question....... :o
Obviously the SLR is the best option, these were taken today with the following settings with flash by hand no tripod:
F/8
Exp 1/60sec
ISO-500
FL 40-55mm
Aperture of around 4.8-5

There has been no post processing on these either apart from the re-size, they are straight out of the camera.
You will just have to tweak with it till you get the look you are after the lower ISO you can get away with the better as there will be less graininess in the image, I prefer ISO-400 tbh.... may be with a tripod you can get away with a longer exposure but difficult to get fish with a tripod.
May be you can use the above settings to begin with and see what happens. But dont be afraid to use the SLRS Auto function some of my best shots were just messing with it on auto.
HTH .......... Dan ..........
Thanks. Great photos! Will have a go with the settings you suggest.

And don't forget to post the results. If you tell us what settings you used and we see the results then we can go from there :)
