Best thing I've done to my tank in the last two years. I was a bit nervous at first, what with all those threads concerning noise. Anyway, I was getting a bit cheesed off with those two Streams sticking out like sore thumbs so I bit the bullet and bought a MP40W. Result ? Whisper quiet from the moment I installed it. Very broad, powerful flow and barely noticeable. Winner all round methinks ! :)

Glad you like them
The best original pump design I have seen in years go way beyond streams, polario, etc.

Designed by reefkeepers who just happen to be first class design engineers.

As for SRV one of the saddest days of my life a true artist and it just goes to show that there is no justice in life. You spend most of your life fighting your drink and drug demons you get clean, get happy and make one of the strongest albums of your career and then god puts you in a Helicopter.

Just goes to show that the best house band is in heaven.

I hear jimi just plays bass these days :D

regards Jez

Is it like this, whisper quiet, when you run it at full speed? Have you tried pulse mode? I have two MP40W's and still await the day they become whisper quiet.

Hi Jez, not to keen on his brother Jimi Vaughan, but Stevie Ray blows me away every time i watch him especially the live from el mecambo video, if you have never seen it buy it. Nice to hear someone with the same musical taste. Check out Oli Brown. and i am sure you will of heard of Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamassa, and John Mayer, i also rate Billy Gibbons.
Take Care and send me a PM when you have seen Live at el mecambo.
Cheers Martin

Yes, It's quiet in all modes. I've tried them all but at the moment It's set to full power, 'long pulse'. Maybe It's down to pot luck whether you get one that's quiet or not ??

Another member on the forum bought three for his tank, and all three produce varying amount of noise, from OK, to bloody noisy!!!

Such a pitty it's pot luck, as I would have one tomorrow if it was guarenteed to be quiet.

HI
Just to try and round this off as I have said many times if you have a noise issue please talk to me and we can have a crack at sorting it.

This is a very subjective thing and I am also honest enough to say I have been out and swapped pumps in peoples houses as they have been wrong and noisy. There is going to be a certain amount of noise as they are not in water so no dampening but they should be liveable. If you have an issue give me a call.

I want you Happy so do Ecotech

regards jez

PS as for the EL Mecambo I have owned it for years and it is quite scary how effortless Stevie makes it all look.

On that note, I want everyone to know I am one of those people who have received above excellent support from Jez, including a house visit and replacement of a noisy pump. Whats better than a silent pump is impeccable customer service. The noise on my pump was significantly reduced, but for someone who has been using Tunze and Hydor Koralia powerheads, any noise is noisy. Powerheads inside water are probably the only way forward if you want complete silence.

Also, to add some balance to this thread - I think its fair to say that the noise levels are manageable and for the features I would have to say its worth living with. For me the biggest selling point was the battery backup feature and external mounting of the motor.

I set up a couple of mp40's a week ago was a little unsure of them at first didn't really see what all the fuss was about for the outlay of cash involved but after a week in use i understand now outstanding took a day or 2 to get used to the workings of these devices had issues at the start i found that for best wireless use both control units needed to be side by side had issues when on other sides of the tank but great now no hassle there is some noise but very bearable IMO and seems to have got a lot quieter or maybe just used to it now but by no means a problem for me great kit only downside is cost but you get a lot for your cash heard that they may be getting more expensive in the near future
