View Full Version : Balling with IKS?

Having giving the balling system some serious consideration I would like to know if the IKS 4 channel doser can be used in the same way as the Aquatronica/GHL dosers.

The problems I foresee is that in order to obtain numerous small doses over a 24 hour period each channel (pump) would need to be set to an interval, however I find that if any programming is carried out, on the RUN command, any interval setting is activiated on the command therefore causing each of the pumps to run at the same time for the period set (clear as mud :scratchhead:) which is not recommended on the balling method.

The only other alternative would be to set up each channel on a timer however I think there would be too many timing setting.

Am I missing something very simple here?

Thanks in anticipation. :thanks:

The 4 channel IKs dosing pump is plugged into the computer and programmed in the same way as you would programme a plug bar. Each doser can be set to run a different times to each other. This allows each one to dose the exact amount you require it to over a set period of time. This allows for total accurate dosing. The minimum you can dose is 0.6ml.

On interval setting usually the sytems runs one pump on and one pump off. I doubt that this would be the best way to go about dosing. You would be better to set the unit up using the timer control and have precise dosing as required. It all depends on how you intend to go about dosing etc.

One of the dosing pumps is iodine safe so is quite usefull for this application.

For some more info check out the IKS web site www.iks-aqua.com (http://www.iks-aqua.com)

You could always email them for more technical info if required. I have not used the GHL or Aquatronica dosers so not able to give you a fair comparison. Maybe some of the guys on here could advise you further if they are familiar with each product.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I would intend to carry out dosing of each chemical over a 24 hour period (little and often) with each chemical staggered. Im not sure the IKS would allow me to programme that amount of timers. It would with the interval, progamming each channel over a specific time, however like I said, if I entered the RUN command, each of the intervals would activate at the same time.

Tried mailing IKS but no joy as yet!

According to the IKS user manual, you can programme up to 32 timer settings per socket over a 24 hour period. This is listed for plug bars so i would imagine that you can do the same with the dosing pumps. This would give you a lot of dosing switching on and off at set times.

The briefest switch period is one second.

I think Ive worked it out. I can change a couple of my timer settings to interval settings, just set the interval for the same period as the period and that would leave me with 30 timer applications therefore giving me:

12 calcium doses
12 bicarb doses
6 magnesium doses

which I dont think would be too bad.

Thanks for your advice.
