I have the above with the Canon 400D Rebel with a Canon 18-55mm lens. I want to get closer and do some close up tank/fish/corals macro shots with it. (I also have a Tamron 55-200 lens) I was thinking of getting some closeup lenses. Any thoughts and what about these?

Hi Les, I have the same camera and want to do the same thing, but I did purchase those items before for my Finepix but not much good mate so I would go for a complete lens but don’t ask as I haven’t got a clue thought someone would give you some info????

Thanks

I and a lot of other people go for the Canon Macro EF 100mm for macro pics. It aint cheap though.

The Tamron will get you closeups but you will need to be further away from the subject and use a tripod (I think that lens has a macro option but I might be wrong).

The lenses should be o.k but personally id opt for macro rings as with adding any glass infront of the lens in will degrade image quality slightly.
If looking to purchase a macro lens then the canon 100mm macro 2.8,tamron macro or sigma 105 macro are all worth a look.

2nd'ed extension tubes will work with all lenses and the kit lens is not that good in the first place that you can put more poor quality glass in front of it.
I would also advise buying a 50mm kit lens as they are seriously good for using with extension tubes due to high f stop.
