Macro lens vs Extension Tubes ?

Just found out that my old Triplus extension tubes will NOT fit my new EF 18-55mm lens that came with my EOS450D kit:annoyed: Either,

A) I buy some new extension tubes, always had reasonable results with them
B) I buy a dedicated Macro lens, but what and it's going to cost more
C) I try to modify the existing tubes to fit the new 18-55mm:(

What's peoples experience with Tubes vs Macros ?

Tubes are o.k,most wont fit the ef-s lens as you have found out.
Personally id save up and buy a decent macro lens,tubes and a 50mm prime can give very good results but i much prefer using my macro lens.
Canon 100mm 2.8,tamron 90mm macro or the sigma 105 macro are all good choices.

Sounds like a sensible idea, I will have a look on fleabay to see what prices they go for and see if I can pick one up.

Still might get the dremmel on these tubes:eek:
