Some people may have noticed a new name on our forum - Tony@D-D who is assisting us greatly by answering some questions and making us aware of requests for help and information.

What some will not know is that Tony also signs on to the forum as the well respected moderator ReefBloke.

There have been a couple of sponsors who feel that this may be a conflict of interests and Tony was concerned by this and so I decided to write this thread.

The relationship all started about a month ago, during a visit to see David Saxby’s aquarium, David pointed out the difficulties for companies to spend all day in business and then to find time to assist people on the forums and emails which D-D see as being very important.

Tony kindly offered to help us out in this respect as he spends hours online anyway and enjoys and understands the interaction that occurs on the forums, however before coming onboard to help us it was important for Tony to discuss the potential issue of conflict of interests with the administrators of Ultimate reef and even offered to resign as a moderator.

It was decided by the other moderators that this would be a loss to the forum and that Tony was professional enough to separate his moderation duties from the time assisting D-D. By having two different sign on names it makes it easier for him to respond to posts and PM’s in either role without creating confusion. D-D also prefers to sign on with real names rather than pseudonyms so that people know who they are talking to.

We have already been made aware of more postings and helped more people with answers than we could hope to have been able to do in the past which is the reason for having a reefkeeping forum in the first place.

Keep up the good work Tony!!!

Stuart

Tony, as you know you have my full support.

Great mod and I'm sure will be great help to members of UR in dealings with D&D

Conflict of interest can be managed by Tony not moderating any threads which touch on sponsor issues.

Maybe Reefbloke should also be changed so there is a Tony@D-D and Tony@UR.

From what I know of Tony he seems a genuine honest bloke who would instinctively conduct himself in a professional manor, however to stop any perceptions developing then transparency is required.

I think its good you made this post, - I wasn't aware Tony had another nick.

Honesty is the best way, and shows integrity. I'm sure no one would have a problem with this.

Thanks peeps i really appreciate your feedback and support.
Basically after being asked i wanted to dip my toe in and make sure i could give both roles the time and effort they deserve hence the two user names.
The two user names did make it easier to separate the two roles but after a trial month i think its best all round for members to know who they are dealing with as there has been a little confusion and concern over the two names.
My only real problem now is that my PM box may overflow whilst dealing with two separate positions on U.R.It was easier to deal separately with two specific user names but hey ho.
Unbiased moderation is very important to me so nothing will change from that point of view.If however members need to contact the moderation team on aspects that concern D-D then please direct issues to other moderators.
So basically I'm here to help with your D-D questions so fire away and ill do my best to give you a prompt reply or liaise with D-D directly to best help you.
Ill ask the admin team to merge the two accounts so please direct any questions to reef bloke.
All the very best Reef bloke/Tony D-D

Does having a BubbleKing Skimmer and representing Deltec not give you a conflict of interest

Only joking as far as I can see this can only be a good thing
