My vortech is starting to be a real pain now.

It started making a whining noise a couple of weeks back, and despite checking the alignment twice it's not getting any better.

Now I've got another problem.

I run the unit in Reef crest mode (the yellow one), but it keeps switching to the 'Pump Disconnect' error (red flashing light).

In any other modes the powerhead works fine, however in reef crest mode it works for a little while, then as the speed of the impeller drops, the pump disconnect error comes up again :annoyed:

Any ideas on what I can try to fix this??

The vortech is only a matter of a few weeks old.

I read a post the other week about a similar problem and it was fixed by doing a 'Firmware' upgrade.

I have never done it myself so unsure of how you do it but I am sure it is in the manual.

Maybe worth a try.

Edit-read the post title first-I don't think MP20 has a firmware upgrade option-Doh

i have had a couple of problems with mine over the last few days :mad: started to grumble same as yours.
then tonight it decided to spin the wet side and eject it across the tank.
after stripping down the wet side of the pump it turned out to be the little white bush at the base of the prop was not seated correctly :annoyed: its keyed so if not inserted correctly the prop overtightened causing it to sieze.

i have now reasembled it and its fine but i did notice a small ammount of side to side movement in the prop afterwards, probably from the bush not being seated squarly.
maybe worth a look at yours to see if it has the same issue

I'm still having problems here :annoyed::annoyed:

The vortech has been off for the last couple of weeks as I've been await and I didn't want to leave it on in error mode.

Played for about an hour with it today. I have aligned it, re-aligned it, and then re-aligned it again. I still have the same problem that it switches to pump disconnect mode.

I've recalibrated the pump twice and still no joy. I've even tried varying the space to see if that made a difference.

I really don't know what to do now :mad:

I've taken a video of the pump in action (sorry for the snail :laugh:). As per my original post, the pump is in reef crest (yellow) mode. As the impeller speed slows, the pump error comes and the impeller stops for a while, then spins up again and goes back to reef crest mode for a while before disconnecting again. After doing this for a couple of mins, the vortech just stays in pump disconnect mode.

Any ideas anyone? :confused:

Opps I didn't realise there was any sound on it :o:laugh: I have iTunes on my Macbook in the background while I filmed and uploaded the vid so didn't hear there was music.

The track was Tommy C by Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip.

The whole album (Angels) is awesome. Not to everyone's taste, but lyrically some of the stuff they do is fantastic. Tommy C is a song about Tommy Cooper. Well worth a £7 download from Amazon :thumbsup:

Also I'm impress with the mic on my camera - the laptop was a good 4 meters away when I was filming :D
