View Full Version : Mixing D-D H20 Salt
I have been using H20 salt mix with great results. I've noticed on other forums that mixing the salt prior to use is recommended. Wow what a pain that was, I first started to mix the salt in the bucket ,but it was to dense to move the salt. Then I removed the salt with the plastic bag in place, sure enough the bag had a small hole and there goes the salt. I manage to stop most of it. So know I can mix the salt easily in the bag, once done, I tried to put the salt back into the bucket, no such luck ,it's not going back in. Took all the salt out of the bag and put it in the bucket.
Is mixing the salt necessary? If so is there any recommendations on an easier way to do it?
Thanks
Kevin
Poor half of the salt into a clean bucket, give both halves a good mix.Now stick the salt from the clean bucket back into the original and roll the bucket around to mix the two halves together.
Dont shake the bucket as it will cause settlement.
Hope this helps Tony

And I thought I was the only one having problems mixing the salt
Mine you I had to read the instructions from Tony twice but I have been drinking :whistling:
Thanks Tony
When I originally put the salt back in the bucket , it didn't fit, I had to shake it a little or else I was not able to put the lid back.Did that happen to you as well. I suppose you are adding more air back in the bucket.
Thanks

cud u not just use a powerhead in the bucket?
I am yet to prer mix some salt up for water changes, so all the advice is welcome.
GeordieDave we are talking about mixing the bucket of dry salt.Elements can settle out due to vibration transit so its always best to give the buckets a good mixing before use.

Hi Tony
Just a thought, I don't know if this is a good idea but I was thinking of using a paint mixer that you attach to a drill. Just wanted to know what your opinion is . I don't see any problems other than it may break up the granules of salt a little smaller.
Thanks
Kevin

The issue with that is you will end up with a very fine mist of powder floating around your room which isn't good to inhale. You will see what I mean after you have given the bucket a good mix and then open the lid straight away (not reccommended).

Thanks for info. I never thought of that.Although, when you mix the salt by hand, you inhale in quite a bit of fine dust as well.
Is this a new thing with D-D salt as i have been keeping marines for 30 odd years and never mixed any salt before using it and never had a problem. I can see how it settles out in transit but this is a new one on me about mixing it. Eric:D
Not really a new thing,it can happen to any salt so its good practice to give your bucket a mix no matter who's salt you use.
