Hi,
I've just received my new red sea max 250, the cabinet was a bit of a pain the round retaining bolts kept breaking, the tank setup was easy, however i can not get the temp below 27c, i've turned the heater off still the temp is 27c, all fans are on, the room temp is 19c, there's 8cm gap between the wall and the tank, its not in direct sun light,
when i took delivery it came with a new up rated pump, was the system run using the new pump to see if it had any effect on the tank,
if i have to buy a chiller to keep it cool then its not the ultimate plug and play reef aquarium,

Dear Leon, Thanks for purchasing a Max 250. Have you registered it? If not then please do so at www.redseamax.com
After a few customers experienced problem in maintaining the correct water temperature in the MAX 250 we realized that the instruction manual did not describe the correct set up for systems that were not using a chiller.
The instruction manual has now been amended both on the web site and in new units however there are still many customers and new units in the shops/distributors that have the original instructions.
In order to operate the MAX250 without a chiller it is essential to use the rear cooling fans and maintain the correct water height for a non-chiller installation. We will shortly be issuing revised instructions. In the meantime you can PM me and I'll send them to you.
Under these conditions the MAX will run at approximately 4C / 7.6F above ambient temperature.
Red Sea recommends that chillers be included as part of a reef system in order to protect the livestock from equipment failure (aquarium or household), or rise in ambient temperature that could cause fatal temperature rises.

leon c,

Did you solve your overheating problem?

Mine is now overheating as well 28degC + with no lights, with lights last night 32degC. I unable to use the chiller as it still on the tank with the fish.

Heater is turned off was set at 22-24degC

My 26 " cube which is in the the same is room is running at 25.7degC, that running with 5 pumps and 144W of light on a closed hood.

Chiller only comes on when needed, few times a day when temp goes above 26degC. why does this RSM tank run so hot!!

I not very happy with the RSM tank, with the lid, the skimmer not working and now the overheating problem and it only been 10 days.

The shop is still chasing for me, the twin fan part that was missing has been ordered

I had a reply from customercare@interpet.co.uk

"We would advise that we are endeavouring to obtain the required parts for you and will forward them shortly.

We thank you for your patience."

How much patience, do I have left, it is getting smaller each day.

Hi Simon, the RSM 130 has the same problem, mine runs hot and I've had to rig fans and keep the front part of the hood open all the time. Having said that, it does run stable at 28 and nothing seems to have a problem with the temp.

customer service is non existant though as per my thread in this section...am very disapointed with the response or lack thereof.
