GHL Profilux just keeps pushing the boundaries, no other controller is developing new products like this!
Here is a sneak preview of the insides of the Profilux III EX.
http://www.reefdreams.co.uk/Images/PIII.jpg
These components will be available at a discounted price (tba) for all owners of the Profilux II and Profilux II EX controllers, so you lose nothing by getting a Profilux today and having the best controller on the market to use till the PIII comes out at the End of September where it will be revealed at MACNA in the US.
Upgrade Components:
http://www.reefdreams.co.uk/Images/PIIIUpg.jpg
Some further information on the PIII:
The processor has been significantly updated, allowing for enourmous expansion and new products, here is a comparison between the current Profilux and the new PIII.
PII / P III:
ROM 128 kB / 1 MB
RAM 8k / >1 MB (jetzt FRAM + DRAM)
Clock 24 MHz / 100 MHz
Bus 16 Bit / 32 Bit
The PIII will feature a built in webserver, the aquatic bus will allow you to connect further card expansion boxes removing the current limitations on expansion cards.
This display will have the same dimensions as the ProfiLux II display and will also be blue/white. But now it is a graphical display, and can display icons, buttons, etc.
It makes no sense to have a full color graphic display in front of the PIII, because:
- The main unit should still have a reasonable price
- The display area is too small for a color display
- To keep it compatible to the PII system for existing customers
BUT:
There will be a full color display with touch screen available - ProfiLux View III !!!
This can be connected to the PAB, all settings can be done on the main unit itself or alternatively on View III.
With this design we keep the initial costs for a ProfiLux III system low, but if you want you can add a graphic color display with touch to the system (maybe later).
The main unit will work alone (without ProfiLux View III).

New External Level Sensor!
This level sensor detects the water level through the glass!
http://www.reefdreams.co.uk/Images/NewLevel.jpg
Simply fix to the side of the tank and keep the inside glass clean. It uses Electro magnetic waves to detect the ewater surface rather than an optical sensor.
Enjoy!!!:D:D:D
Steve
that external sensor is champs steve, is there any limit on the glass thickness?

I haven't had a release date for the ViewIII yet, I would imagine they will try and get it released very close to the PIII itself.
I'm sure there will be high demand for this, so we will be taking pre-orders for this when we get closer to the release date and have pricing information.

Will the new bits (View III/ Level sensor etc) be able to be used with the current Profilux?

The Level sensor will work with the current Profilux units and should be available in the next 2 months.
The View III will only work on the current units if they are upgraded to the profilux III as it uses the new PAB connection.

To answer an earlier question:
The level sensors have been tested on 20mm glass and worked.
Steve

i have a standard profilux II would the upgrade kit to a III have more components to it than what the profilux II Ex need?

The upgrade kit to Profilux III is the same.
Profilux plus II + EX Upgrade Kit = Profilux Plus II EX
Profilux plus II + Profilux III upgrade = Profilux III
Profilux plus II + EX Upgrade Kit + Profilux III Upgrade = Profilux III EX
Profilux plus II EX + Profilux III Upgrade = Profilux III EX
I hope that makes sense.

So when asked:will the new ProfiView be coming out any time soon?
You said:No
Linky (post #28) (http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=266370&page=3)
But now you say:There will be a full color display with touch screen available - ProfiLux View III !!!
I'm sure it was the information you were working with at the time, Steve - it's just unfortunate that the manufacturer chooses not to keep the UK distributor up to date! :annoyed:

So when asked:

It's not really a case of not keeping us informed, at that time a larger a screen was going to be part of the PIII. Since then it has been found that it couldn't be fitted into the existing enclosure or produced at a cost suitable for the unit. So in response and due to feedback from users GHL have now developed a touch screen which can be added only to the Profilux III (as it uses the PAB). The View II will still be available as touch screens are not cheap and won't appeal to everyone.
With a product that is responsive to the market and can develop products quickly, there are always going to changes to design and spec in respose to feedback. I would much prefer that, than to wait 2-3 years for new products that only interface with old technology.
Steve
well im just glad to be a retailer of such a great product with fast moving r+d and what in this industry {which is well known for its bad support of its retailers} has the best support i have ever encountered.
The new lines look great, i cant wait to fit them to the new display tank if it ever turns up lmao

The upgrade kit to Profilux III is the same.
Profilux plus II + EX Upgrade Kit = Profilux Plus II EX
Profilux plus II + Profilux III upgrade = Profilux III
Profilux plus II + EX Upgrade Kit + Profilux III Upgrade = Profilux III EX
Profilux plus II EX + Profilux III Upgrade = Profilux III EX
I hope that makes sense.
Steve
so basically the circuit board to upgrade from II to EX bears no relation to the PIII.
hmm to wait and expand my PII now or late and go all singing all dancing later in the year...

As they say "the choice is yours" :)
There is a price rise coming that we have delayed, from the 1st of June, at present to see if the Euro can stabilise at a decent level. Regardless of the Euro rate some products (the EX upgrade is one) will have a slight price rise due to manufacturing costs, so it may be better to jump now.:(

Steve,
If I choose to upgrade from the II EX to the III EX will the current LAN port in my GHL no longer be required?
Thanks

The Profilux III upgrade includes a new high speed Lan/USB card that connects into the main processor board directly, so this would replace your current LAN card.

Nothing yet, keep an eye on the aquarium computer forum as it will probably be leaked first there.

We should see the new analogue/digital input cards either later this week or early next week.
So it's time to get you thinking caps on as to how you will use these.
They take either analogue signal or digital signal to enable triggers in the GHL.
Some suggestions already put forward are:
Flow meters (detect when your return pump is failing/needs cleaning)
Door contacts (like sump room shed alarm signals)
additional level sensors
leak detectors
The options are pretty endless, as any within spec input can be used.
I will hopefully get the manual to translate/correct as normal this week and can then give you further information.

I am so relieved to have found this sight. As you can see I’m new around here.
I am from SA and also have a profilux system.
Love to ask you a few things.
When can we expect some upgrades on the sms unit? Like to control your system from your cell.
Cannot wait for all the new upgrades coming. But when can we start seeing some new probes
Eg. For phosphates, nitrates and so.
Thanks for all the info that you provide. It is very help full.
Hi,
Will there be a further discount given to people who already bought the LAN card when they upgrade to the PIII Ex Version from PII Ex.
Thanks
Scott

Hi and welcome to UR.
I believe GHL are reluctant to introduce control from a mobile phone via SMS as there is no way to acknowledge that the command has been successful. Whilst it is in theory a great feature, in practice it could leave a piece of equipment in operation unexpectedly. With the Profilux III and it's in built webserver it should be possible to issue commands directly from any web enabled phone as most are nowadays.
New probes I think are unlikely as they are severley limited by the technology in ionspecific probes. The cost of the probes to date is prohibitive. However with the anologue/Digital input card you could acheive this if you can find a probe.

Scott
Hi Scott,
Pricing or upgrade discounts are not known for the PIII yet. However I don't believe there will be a LAN card discount.
The current PII will still be sold for many years as it is one of the best controllers on the market and is more than sufficient for 95% of aquariums. Therefore I see a healthy market in cards for those who upgrade and want to sell on surplus cards.
Steve
Hi,
Thanks for the info on the LAN Card, will the PII people who upgrade retain there II Ex board or will that be on an exchange basis?
Is it possible to suggest a new software feature??
Only i think it would be good if you could setup automatic log rotation to say your pc via ftp or something, this way you can set the device logging and forget about it rather than have to keep pulling the files off??
Cheers

The EX boards work with the PIII, it makes it a PIII EX so there is no need to change these boards.
Feel free to suggest any improvements, although it might be quicker posting directly on the GHL site where the developers monitor posts. http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/Forum/index.php?langid=2
For logging, take a look at Reefstatus (http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=119) this will log all your results to an SQL database, and provide graphs etc as well as Iphone interfaces etc.
Steve
Awesome will check reefstatus out.

User testing is going to be starting with 20 units released worldwide during September for users to test. So we should be on schedule for the release after Macna in the USA at the end of September.:)
oooh can I be a tester please?
stevew@reefdreams

oooh can I be a tester please?
You need to apply direct to Matthias, there has been a thread on the aquarium computer forum for a couple of days, but I believe Matthias had over 40 replies in a few hours. Obviously not everyone will be suitable or require all the parts that need to be tested.. so it may be worth while putting yourself forward, and pointing out your background and experience. I did suggest that I organised a few from the UK, but Matthias wanted to select himself and organise the discounted units direct.
Steve
Steve,
Where is Matthias's thread to test the Profilux 3?.
I'd like to put my system forward to trial it if poss...... I have the SMS/ 02 probe etc ready to go already if they will work and the system will be wet very shortly!.
