i wouldnt think so as long as its cleaned often...

i do find it loses a slight bit with it on, not much but just a bit

Ive just tested mine, ive got 2 X MP40Ws lined up together.

I can confirm the protected does decrease the flow slightly, as matt says...

But if youve got an anemone.. I wouldnt see why people wouldnt use them...
