activated carbon bags

how long do all you rsm owners leave the carbon bags in for ? do you clean them, replace them ? ive just purchased a used rsm 130 but have no media, so wondering what media if any to put in ? or do you run it with live rock rubble in ..
so many questions :)

I run mine stock with the addition of some live rock rubble on top of carbon bag (as much to weigh the bag down as water quality improver).
Have found that the ammount of accumulated gunk restricting the water flow to the return pumps governs the frequency of carbon bag changing. Usually 6 wks. Red sea reccomend 8 weeks approx.

The quality of carbon varies hugely. We strongly suggest using Max carbon as its absorption rate is far higher than most carbons, and it last longer making it good value for money, even if the initial price may be slightly higher.
