View Full Version : Light writing
After looking at Alistairs pics on light painting, i have been trying to find my light painting efforts to no avail.
However, i did find some light writing I have done

This was taken while camping in Canada.
Some more light writing

Don't you hate it when someone jumps in your seat?

This has nothing to do with light writing, but i thought it was mildly amusing, i had an epiphany whilst getting ready for bed ...
Great shots Paul.. the seated figure is brilliant!
Have you come across the 28DL (http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/index.php) urbex forum? There's some brilliant subterranean light painting going on there..
I hadn't seen that forum Al, I have looked into "urbex" before, i think it's hilarious, the thought of hoodies running around abandoned buildings being chased by fat security guards and German Sheperds, whilst snapping away and performing 'Parkour' type acrobatics :)
Hmmm.. I have taken to wearing a hoodie (it's dammed cold this time of year).. but I don't really have the physique for parkour.. and I've more sense to try a site with active security! :D
Pretty amazing pics there Paul, how do you do this 'light writing'?
Do you belong to some secret 'sect'. :D

Its all about long exposures, and general darkness.
Picasso loved a bit too

No secret sect :)
Ratters..
Set yourself a long exposure in a darkened room (most cameras seem to max out a 30 seconds without going into Bulb mode*)
Run around like a lunatic with a small pen torch (or get all creative and draw pictures in the air)
Put the furniture back where you knocked it down
Check the results
As long as you move fairly steadily you won't show up as more than the faintest of ghosts.. until you stop at the end for several seconds without moving.
* Bulb mode is where you press the shutter to open the lens and press it again to close it.
Cheers guys, sounds like a party game for NYE.

How did you achieve this?
It's either special time delay glass in the mirror that runs 5 seconds behind time so you've got a chance to pull a second pose.. or it's a composite with two shots stitched together.. ;)
