I think they're both great.
I particularly like the tree. I love bare branched nicely shaped trees and I like the sky backdrop - very nice!
like the second one. interesting.
I suspect the second picture would be an even stronger image with a good black and white conversion..
Both are great, but I prefer the tree. As suggested the rock would be better in BW.
Thanx peeps got a few b/w shots from there as well, add soon to see what you think.
As promised, the same shot converted and another couple taken the same day at the giant's causeway here in N. Ireland..........

Much better with the black and white processing, it brings out the form better.. are you using a preset or filter for the conversion?
Those were a simple conversion using Picasa 3 as I haven't got my hands on photoshop yet mate.
If you're just looking for simple editting (exposure, colour, gradients, etc) then consider Lightroom instead of Photoshop (there's a free 14 day trial on the Adobe website). There's a lot that can be done when converting to black and white to add depth and tone toan image. I've been doing a lot of black and white conversion myself recently and developing a couple of Lightroom presets.
Thanx Alastair...appreciate that..geting more used to this digital game as I go.
