I'll be setting up my new/2nd hand tank in a couple of weeks and I'll be running 3 x MP40w's. All 3 units have been used so in theory I should just plug them back in...

Actually what key points should I consider so that I have a "smooth" set up procedure of these units ?

Also I may get some spares when I'm back in the UK, what does everyone recommend to keep as spare for these units ?

Final point, as these units have been used, I will clean them, what to do/not to do etc ?

Thanks

Get dirty with them ASAP you'll love it. So easy to set up, little more than setting the spacer for the glass thickness which will be self-explanatory when you have it in you hand (no virgin jokes please) then aligning it which is done by ear/feel (ditto on the jokes). Only used a single unit myself but there's plenty on here that have used multiples (kev s is one so quiz him if he comes over to help with the tank)

I would make your self familiar with the Ecotech website (http://ecotechmarine.com/)if not already done so, it contains some really valuable info Nigel.

I would also read the MP40 manua (http://ecotechmarine.com/wp-content/themes/ecotech/pdf/MP40w_manual_1.1.pdf)l front to back & back to front a few times;)

I will test you on this later:whistling:

I personally don't have any spares but I can understand why you would want to pick some up whilst over here, possibly a complete spare wetside if I were you:)

As for cleaning, I have had mine now for 5 months and have only removed them twice from the tank for cleaning, I just give them a quick 'brush' over in some tank water.........rightly or wrongly but it has worked for me:)

There is a cleaning schedule on the website and also a video in this forum on how to disassemble & reassemble the units, worth a look also.

Hope all goes well with the move, looking forward to seeing the re-birth of the tank and enjoy the Vortechs:thumbsup:

OK so after a few conversations with a very helpful Jezz, I have a spare wet side and another battery back up waiting at STM for me to collect on Monday.

Also I've been playing about with one of the units here on a spare tank just so that I can familiarise myself with them.
