View Full Version : Power head problem
Im now the proud owner ( again ) of a RSM, i love these tanks for there simplicity and compactness , but... i remember last time i had one i had this problem, and im not sure what rsm did to advise or help me cure it ? its the power heads it seems they are so powerfull at times they can empty the chamber before its emptyed ! ive chopped half the black sponge away as i remember that was a recomendation, but how do we get over this emprtying of the end chamber before the water flows in ?
many thanks

If you follow the manual and stick to the media supplied with the Max then you should not have any problems with water flow. However there are a few ways to reduce the maintenance required to keep the water flowing nicely to the filter: Ensure the filter inlet comb is clean and in its lowest position. The white felt pad which is supplied with the Max is designed only for sporadic use to "polish" the water. The black foam is now supplied with a channel cut vertically through it to create a bypass in case the foam becomes too dirty and restricts water flow. You will also find that the new surface skimmer, retrofittable but supplied as standard with the 130D, will help water flow and skimmer performance.

The protein skimmer can't be upgraded as the fit is different to the original.
Drop me an email to: steveh@redseafish.com and I'll send you a pic of the foam. The Surface Skimmer (upgradable for the M130 and available from Cov Aq), will definitely help with flow through the filter, although it's a "nice to have" rather than a necessity.
