Hi all,

I have recently purchased an RSM 130 of a mate who's given up marines. The original hood doesn't work. It seems to to be the relay as no fan, LED's etc. come on. Tubes are brand new.

So question number 1 :)
Is the relay a fairly generic part? am I likely to open the hood and be able to replace the relay with parts likley to be obtained from RS or Farnell etc.

Secondly - as fortune would have it my mate, happened to have a spare hood unopened and sealed from Interpet which he gave me (he got it as a spare some time ago, hooray!). I've hooked it all up and away we went, lights, fans action EXCEPT!! the timer doesn't work! the clock doesn't move so the lights can't be programmed

So question 2
Do replacement hoods come with the timer module, or is this a spare part (by module I mean the main brains not just the dial) AND if this has become faulty is it possible to get a spare timer module.

I would like to repair the original hood so I have a spare operational hood in case I get another lighting issue in the future.

PLEASE HELP a new RSM owner out :(

Hi all,

Just a quick update. Steve Halls has be an absolute hero in helping me out :applause:

I've now got both hoods up and working. The timer module was indeed faulty (dismantled it at work and found it to be a fault with the timer motor, rest of it was fine).

Replaced the relay in the old hood and voila! instant lighting

I've got to say the service from Red Sea and Steve in particular is second to none, I've never known anything like it (especially from the manufacturers and service providers I have to deal with on a day to day basis!)

Now it's just a waiting game for my tank to finish cycling and away I go

Hi Bobby 09,

you have given me a great opportunely to introduce myself to the forum, my name is Kevin Davies and I will be taking over the Red Sea forum from Steve.

As you have acquired your max second hand I would look to replace both lamps so you can start a fresh so to speak, the max replacement lamps are a high quality product and I cannot emphasise enough the importance of replacing lamps at the correct time, if you have difficulty finding these please let me know and I will put you in contact with a reputable retailer.

The life we keep in our systems will only ever be as good as the light we afford them and the lamps produced for the Max range have been extensively tested obtaining fantastic results with numerous types of animals including LPS and some SPS type corals in the 130 range and extensive tests with SPS on the 250 range.

With regards to your problem with your LED's if you send me a PM with you contact details I will try and resolve this for you .

my RSM 34 gallon led do not work. I also cannot get the fan in the back left corner to come on . Not sure if the 2 are related. Is there a fix for this or a way to take the cover containing the leds apart

thanks

Hi Tony,
I have a Red sea Max 130...If you meant the fan behind the back of the pump chamber, this housing is for an additional fan for cooling which has a transformer you plug it into.
My tank came with this additional fan when i purchased not sure if this comes with the RSM 130 ??.
I had to remove the grey false fan cover in order to install the additional fan.

Hope this helps RSM 10
