Experimental shots using a circular/linear polarising filter combination for long exposures in full sun.

The subject is a stunted pine tree growing on the roof of an abandoned decontamination building at a former WW2 era airfield. The long exposure captures the static elements in crisp detail, but blurs and softens the organic forms as they blow in the strong breeze.

Canon 40D, Sigma 30mm 1.4 EX, Camlink CPL, Rowi LPL, tripod and wired remote release.

2.5 seconds, f/16.0, 30 mm, ISO 100

Nice shot imo, what's it look like in colour?

Awful.

The blue cast from the combined filters is a bit overpowering.

Long exposures are where i have found my niche and i feel most satisfied. I sport two ND8's (sometimes both at the same time with a polariser!) and i also sometimes sport a ND110 which allows 10 stops of light reduction and is used to photograph industrial furnaces, i can get 5 - 10 minute exposures in bright day light, i'm still yet to perfect the technique with the ND110 yet tho :(

Long exposures in daylight have a magical property.. I'd like to also try this with portraits (but only between 2 and 5 seconds)..
