I'll post exact details of the pre-order process shortly. The upgrade kits will be available through our retailers.
We have had a few people ask if we could do the the upgrade for them, so we may have a direct chargeable upgrade process through ourselves... still lots to sort out.
Don't contact retailers just yet, they won't know what you are talking about unless they have read these threads. Information will be going out to the retailers over the next week.

Great news Steve - thanks for the update.

Not yet, the screen is the same size and colour as the present one, it just allows non standard character sets. Until all the software is finalised there won't be a great deal to see. User testing starts in September so it shouldn't be too long.

As long as it is a UK unit it doesn't matter who you bought it from to qualify.

Does buying this extend the warranty or does it remain at whatever is left on the original unit ?
any news on which sponsors will be doing the offer???

I believe it is like an upgrade to any other product. The warranty of the original unit will be unaffected, the new upgrade will come with a new guarantee. In reality, GHL aren't going to leave you in the lurch.

All of our retailers will be offering the upgrade, once everything is finalised. There will, following a number of requests, an option to return your unit to us, either firectly or through you retailer to have it upgraded and your settings restored ready to plug back in. (an additional charge will apply)

Hi Steve
I have just purchased a IIplus EX second hand from a member on here, I will want to get an upgrade kit when they are available, do I need to do anything once I have the unit I purchased like registering it with your selves etc so I qualify for the discounted price?
Jim

Hi Jim,
You won't need to register it as such, just provide a valid UK serial number to receive the discounted price.
I won't be starting the pre-orders with the retailers until we are sure of a release date. At this point in time I would guess it is likely to be more towards the end of October than the start.

I think you might have misheard, it was certainly noisy in the marque at times.
All current digital powerbars and analogue powerbars will work in the same way they do now on the P3.
A new power bar (PAB) is available, that will only work on the Profilux 3 via the new PAB connection ports. This will have additional features eventually like current sensing, so it will be able to identify when pumps need cleaning or your lights have become inefficient.
Currently testing is taking place on the P3, initially the firmware and software will be combined with the current Profilux II software. This will allow a new release of Profilux control V5.0, which will have some nice new features and improvements to some areas and will work with the Profilux III and Profilux Plus II.
As a result new features like the the PAB system is disabled for the beta testers so that all the current features can be tested thoroughly. As a result on the demo system I had at SWM didn't have a PAB powerbar attached, I think that is what you are meaning.
Get that upgrade ordered.... you know you want to...lol

Steve
when will the upgrade price go back up??
The discount offer will stop Sunday 22nd November, any upgrade orders placed from now on are likely to be shipped from batches delivered to us in mid January.
Hi Steve,
I'm looking to get my order in for the P3 upgrade, but I am a little confused / worried about the warranty situation if I buy an upgrade and fit it myself.
This was posted on the GHL forum:
"you didn't get it wrong - GHL does not support officially DIY upgrades at home!
We refuse any warranty or liability or responsibility for damages which occur during the upgrade!
If the ProfiLux II or the upgrade kit becomes broken the customers money is lost!
-> I highly recommed that only instructed retailers (or we) do this upgrade! All retailers will get full technical support from us.
You can't compare this upgrade with just inserting a PCB into a SMS-module or an expansion card into a ProfiLux, there have also slight mechanical modifications to be done.
And I am sure a tank can run a few days without a controller. "
I am, like a lot of others on here, reluctant / unable to run our tanks without the GHL, however the above quote suggests that we do NOT have an option.
Please can you clarify where we stand on this.
Many thanks

There are few steps to installing the upgrade, and some minor modifications to the case. These are all very simple and as long as you follow the instructions step by step, then you will not invalidate your warranty as you won't break anything...
If you have any doubts about being able to carry out the installation we have offered a service to do this, all you have to do is package up the Profilux, and we'll get UPS to collect and return it in 3 working days.

i feel a you tube moment coming on :D
Hi Steve, thanks for your reply.
It is not that I have any doubts in being able to do the upgrade (I am a computer engineer!) but my concern is where do I stand if something should go wrong with the unit post upgrade - ie 3 months later?
The post states that GHL do not support the upgrade at home.
Also, what warranty comes with the upgrade?
Many thanks
stevew@reefdreams
17-11-09, 05:21
The upgrade comes with a standard 1 yr guarantee on the parts. I don't believe this will extend the warranty on the original unit, just on the new parts.
This is not affected if you install yourself, get a retailer to do it or direct from us. The only issue is that there are a couple of steps in the upgrade that must be carried out before re-assembly of unit, if these are not done then damage could occur to the unit. This will be made quite clear in the instructions.

steve ordered my upgrade through STM when details first came out.
Do you know if mines shipped yet :(
stevew@reefdreams

As per the link from Matthias
http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=1078
The shipments will start at 08. December 2009 and they will take about 2 weeks (it is just impossible to ship several hundreds of P3, P3eX, Powerbars-PAB, Expansion Boxes, Upgrade Kits,...) in one day...
I will let you all know as soon as they arrive.

Despite us having the intelligence to ship the upgrades in sensible packaging, it appears that there have been a few failures with installs elsewhere around the world for GHL to impose a contractual clause that P3 installs must be installed by the UK distributor or a trained and indemnified retailer, so until that is achieved through the retailer network, that will be via ourselves.
Therefore from 28/01/2010: All kits must be installed directly by GHL Profilux (UK)
For this price we will arrange a convenient day for UPS to collect the unit on working day 1, this will be delivered to us on working day 2, this will be upgraded and tested on working day 3 and shipped back to you on working day 4. All upgrades will be delivered to you upgraded/tested and with the latest firmware installed, all you will have to do is re-enter your settings.
Whilst I feel very disappointed that we are having to follow this code, after our exemplary installations to date, I have no choice but to pass on the policy which is now part of my contract.
Everyone who ordered home installation before now has been shipped as planned. This will only apply to any new orders.
Steve
I currently use a PIIex to control an aquarium at the moment - ie heat , lights , top up , etc .
I simply cannot afford to send it away for 3-4 days as I would not be able to run the tank without the Profilux . I'm happy to take it to a retailer and have it away from the tank for 2-3 hours but couldn't handle any more than this realistically .
So what is the current situation regarding retailers doing the upgrade , I'd need a retailer in the Northwest ( I think OASIS in manchester are a retailer of yours ) .
stevew@reefdreams
19-02-10, 21:02
Currently, the only retailer able to do upgrades is Taunton Aquarium Centre.
We are looking into the possibility of offering an exchange unit for the duration of the upgrade, but it is early days and until the kits are coming through from Germany freely, it won't be implemented.
As soon as I can give anything more definite then I'll update here.
Steve
What is the status of new order waiting times Steve? I wasn't going to upgrade my PIIex but I need a LAN connection and the upgrade comes with one and makes it quite attractive.
A second question - I currently only have one slot free (I think....) and the upgrade uses one slot I believe - are my old cards compatible and does this mean I'll be left with all my slots full?
I currently have:
