Good sense of movement and speed with the panning.. that's always the difficult bit with bikes/cars.. very easy to stop-the-motion, much harder to capture it.. well done :D

I know how tough it is.. I took 500+ photos at a recent rally event.. took most of the session to get my eye on for panning.. total "good" panning shots from that day were in single figures.. ;)

The portrait format works really well for this shot btw..

Fan-blooming-tastic pic!!!

I actually quite like the slight loss of subject focus as it makes a great contrast with the background giving a greater sense of movement. And it makes me miss my bike a lot too, banned from owning another by my better half after an incident involving me, a tractor, two broken legs, a broken ankle, cracked skull, and two years of operations :ouch:

Still, on the plus side it got me in to fish

This is one i took a couple of years ago on my old point and click at Aberdare Park road races
You can see the rider i was after with his head down looking for that last bit of speed past the line.

Good shots of the track day.. interestingly the pro hasn't gone for panning at all, but instead has picked a point of view where this is less noticeable and where he can predict the position of the rider will convey the sense of movement. He uses the depth of field from the long lens to get the background pleasantly out-of-focus. It shows that local knowledge of the location can make for an easier photograph.

The pro shots might be sharper.. but mtelfo gets a better sense of speed by going for the panning shot.. and that's a technically far harder shot than the pro chose to take.

That 4th shot looks expensive.
I'm assuming that your son was uninjured.
