Hi, I bought a 1000ml tub of Tanktest's Phos remover from you the other week and when I've got it home and opened it the granules are a similar size to coffee granules - the problem is when placed in my Deltec FR509 reactor (100 grams added) it will not fluidize, it just sits there in a clump. The label states that it is suitable for both sock and fluidizing in a reactor....

I have posted on the Tanktest section as another person has the same issue with Tanktest phos remover purchased from you but Muzzy's response seemed to indicate that the granules should be much smaller? Muzzy is on holiday until the 8th so probably won't reply until then. A look on www.tanktest.co.uk shows only the phos remover labelled XS - whcih mine is clearly not - is it possible that you are holding discontinued stock? If so, can I return my tub for replacement with the current XS product? :thanks: Andy

ANDY, IF IT'S THE XM PRODUCT WITH LARGER GRANULES TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR REACTOR NOW

If you read this thread (http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=322944&highlight=end) a lot of the Liverpool group used this media after a bulk buy, put it in our reactors as advised and straight away afterwards tanks crashed, red slime appeared, and a couple of tanks were completely ruined! It's a long thread, but I would recommend reading it.

Proceed with caution when using this product. IMO it's not worth the risk of using these cheaper products of unverified quality.

Surprised you still stock this stuff Mark.

that stuff nearly wiped out my tank as the pics in that thread show, still not 100% back to what it was 2 months later, 2 buckets of salt used for water changes and a liytre of rowa phos saved it , be very careful

For what it's worth, I run XM in my reactor and it fluidises great and have had no problems...

I am quite religious in changing it though so maybe that helps...

i would suggest you are taking quite a risk then.

the xm i used was only in for 36 hours before it ruined my tank, others had it in for a few days - not like it was spent or anything.

if you haven't done already, then suggest you read the linked thread above

yes, in the case of all of us in liverpool muzzy claimed it wasn't his product either. funny eh?!

reckoned it was the water, even though people from bolton and further afield had contacted matt with the same problems.

don't know the circumstances of your case tom, but there is one common theme here in all of them.

I have been using it for over 3 months now. I read the thread and was a little concerned but apart from a few fish lost due to the whitespot outbreak (last weekend) everything is doing great (touch wood).

That said, I will probably switch to the XS when this stuff is gone as I bought the XM in error anyway...

thanks for the input shaun. sorry to hear about your problems.

personally i have gone back to using tried and tested products like rowaphos. for the amount of money you save using the tt stuff, it's not worth the chance

i think there is some confusion going on here

please note very carefully:

the XS Fine granular phos remover is perfectly safe to use, is working well in many systems. This is the ONLY phos media available from tank tests and has been the case for several months.

I'm a bit dissapointed that in Muzzy's TankTest thread that he said that the few people that bought the only batch of the larger (XM) media including Cockfields were specifically told to check with the customer that they would not be fluidizing the media as despite the label saying it was suitable to fluidize it was only suitable for use in a sock. You had said that you had not been told that there was a problem....

I do not wish to start a you said/he said war but as others found when fluidizing the XM, I suffered a massive cyno outbreak and as I mentioned to you lost a couple of favia frags :(
