Hi Rohan
A quick question re. your HUFA enrichment.
Am I asking for bacterial trouble if I re-use the enriched water for more than one day/batch of NHBS? Or should I stick to breaking down cleaning out for each batch (I know Im being lazy :) )
Thanks
Hi Neil
Avoid being lazy and set up fresh each time. Even if you are growing hatched shrimp on it's sensible to strip the hatcher down, wash out, and set up again. You know its worth it.
Cheers
Hi all
The smaller quantity of 25ml HUFA enrichment has been reintroduced thanks to the shop running more efficiently:
http://www.zmsystems.co.uk/index.php?app=gbu0&ns=catshow&ref=bsfood
25ml priced at £7.18
100ml priced at £19.75
This product provides nutritional enrichment throughout the brineshrimp incubation and hatching process; the immediate benefits for young fry are higher levels of beneficial HUFA’s and vitamins for early development.
Lipids: 67%, Crude ash: 1%, DHA/EPA ratio: 2.5:1, sum w3 HUFA mg/g: 200, vit A iu/kg: 1,500,000, vit D3 iu/kg: 150,000 ,vit E mg/kg: 3,600 , vit C mg/kg 800 Storage at 5-15 deg. C, once pack is opened store at 4 deg. C. The new protocol for single dose HUFA enriched brine shrimp: 1. For each 1 litre culture set up with 1g cysts per 1 litre. 2. take HUFA out from the fridge one day before use (same day as culture setup). 3. emulsify 0.6 g or 1 ml of HUFA in 8ml fresh culture water using a clean pipette 4. add emulsion to new hatched shrimp and harvest after 24 hrs
N.B. some users have used the HUFA enrichment as a topical treatment to frozen foods.

Rohan, another enrichment question....
Following 12 hours or so of enrichment only around 20% of my BBS are still alive. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
Hi Neil
The guideline cysts quantity is 1g per litre for the HUFA treatment - normal quantity for incubation is 2.5-5g per litre; how does this compare with your set up?
I assuming the aeration is sufficient? is the pH about 8?
May be worth running an identical batch alongside without the HUFA to check the shrimp viability vs the HUFA treatment.
Cheers

Maybe Im overdoing the guideline quantities.
I've been hatching 3 teaspoons (guess about 12 grams) worth in a 2l hatcher.
After hatching I use some of the NHBS immediately and dump the rest overnight in a seperate hatcher for enrichment.
Most times Im probably far exceeding the 1g per litre recommendation!
Ill test with some smaller quantities - thanks for your help.
OK Neil - there's a good chance the shrimp are affected by low oxygen in that case. Sounds like you'll be read soon for those big hatchers. Nice to hear about the Platinum Clowns btw.
Cheers
