Retail store

Just to gauge interest, are there any reefers in the east midlands who would find a retail outlet in or close to Derby city centre useful?

Living close to Derby myself I find that I need to travel for nearly half an hour (in any direction) to reach any decent shops.

What do you think?

Are we talking just for tanks/stands here Billy or wet stock?

If you're talking a wet shop then "Hell yes!!!" Fish aren't too much of a problem to source, but we're badly in need of a real coral specialist around here.

Close to Derby would be good, a little north of there would be better ....

Things have taken off quite quickly for us which means we are going to need larger premises. We are currently looking at a 3,000 sq ft unit off Ascot Drive in Derby. We only really need around 2,000 sq ft for raw material storage, manufacturing space and an office. We have therefore been considering creating a shop front to display a few tanks, a decent sized area to display the ceramics and also a decent stock of dry goods, equipment and consumables etc.

It would all have to fit in around the aquarium builds etc, so we would be looking to open up maybe 3 evenings in the week and maybe one day of the weekend. I would be around most of the time and therefore be able to open up by appointment.

The odd coral table wouldn't be a bad idea though, with a few select corals......

The thought of the extra commitment is making me nervous but I do think there is a distinct lack of a coral specialist in this area of the east midlands.

mate i so badly want to open an outlet in derby but the cost is out of my league,if you need any help you know where i am and i mean that billy,the unit you are thinking of is it on sydney robinson industrial estate next to howdens by any chance?

You def have my backing Billy. Hubby and myself met you recently when you visited us at our workshop on Haydock Park Road.
We are desperate for something decent in Derby. Like you said there is a good 20-30 minute drive just to get basic stuff, never mind any special corals. I recently went up to York for special corals, yes OC that was a brill shop but it becomes expensive when you put fuel into the equation.
I appreciate it is a big step and times are hard but you would have very little if any competition so don't think you can fail. Also I could pop in on my way home from work!
The more I think about it the better it sounds. Hope it comes to fruition and good luck
