Size is not an issue nor is water quality if you do it correctly - look at Reef-Eden site - google it - think Simons tank was a fair size, and he IIRC did it this way - have a look, costs nothing to look. ![]() ATB Tets.

Reef Eden is not a sponser- have a look on the sponser page, most of them do Live rock, - if you made your own rock, and then purchased a few choice pieces of Live rock, you would be quids in - more money in your pocket. ![]() ATB Tets.

Not even one picture is shown i don't know what's wrong ![]() Even so to get some realistic shapes you need sand casting and i just don't have so much time. If the dead rock is cheap i prefer to buy some ready ones

Couple of things - you have a big tank. I'd rather not have the LR for that size tank curing in my house because it can stink like heck. Having said that I'm not sure that it's very easy to find somewhere to cure it apart from the main display. Brushing it with a bog brush is a foul job, but to get obviously dying sponges and seaweed off likely worth it.
Also for aquascaping purposes you want it in as big pieces as possible otherwise sticking it together will drive you bananas in short order, and will be a heck of a job. In that sense diy rock might be the way to go as you can build big shapes to start with. You quoted a (high) price earlier -that's for rock from an lfs in Cyprus? How often do they import rock? It's not really practical to import rock yourself as it's CITES controlled (as it's dead coral skeleton) and so while it wouldn't be hard to get somone to send you say 15boxes from SE Asia it will come with a lot of paperwork, and that paperwork is prety much unavoidable. But if the local shop is importing rock then you can probably negotiate a price for them to getanother 15 boxes and get them to drop the price to only a small profit as it is going to go straight to you and your tank. They will likely also get a betterprice and qualiy if they order a lot in one go(say 30 boxes instead of 15) compared to normal. |
