The Max Has Landed :)

My new Red Sea Max nano (ish) (130l) has arrived today

So obviously I wasted no time in getting it set up and running:

First impressions, it looks VERY nice and everything is well designed, there are even special cable channels to run all the cables along

The skimmer is a hell of a lot bigger than I thought, it takes up probably 1/3 of the back compartment and runs the whole height of the tank, so for a tank this size it should do a very good job, it has allready started pulling gunk out, presumably from the sand

The electrical side of things has been very well thought out and the control pannel is excellent, it allows you to turn everything on and off easly and safely.

So far I have a couple of niggles, the main one being in order for you to have water running over the comb in to the back section so it is cleaning the surface, you have to have the water level just very slightly above the rim of the tank which is ok but as soon as you loose the slightest bit from evap you are going to be able to see the water line

The next niggle is the fact that the compartment where the filter media has to go is below the 2 pumps so you have to remove both pumps and disconnect the hood in order to replace the carbon etc

I also think I will definatly need to add more circulation!

So far I have the temp at 26c, the sand (8lb TMC course) is in, and the SG is 1.026. So all is well

Hopefully I may add some LR later on tonight

I got it a bit cheaper than RRP as I know someone in the trade, the mark up on these is quite high!

That lead that was streatched was just an additional heater to bring it up to temp quicker, its gone now.

I have put some LR in now, about 10Kg worth, I will upload some more pics tomorrow

Looking forward to seeing updates.

I love the look of this tank. Sizewise, it also appeals.

The only downside is the usual mark-up UK consumers have to pay.

Right, got the live rock in and sort of aquascaped after having to move it as the fans on the lights are too noisy aparently, her indoors want happy!!

Not sure if I need any more? I have a couple more to go in but they have softies on them so I need to wait for it to cycle.

Here is a pic of one of the hitch hikers, I have called him Max

I will try and take a pic without the micro bubbles later!

I've been thinking about one of these tanks....are the fans always on or are they temp controlled? Is the skimmer based on a red sea prizim skimmer? and finally is there anyway that the black background can be changed to blue?

Cheers.....Looking Nice by the Way!!!! Also thinking of downgrading.

So i'll be watching with interest. (so far i've found them online for £769 and instore for £699).
