Grimson's Fit Filtration 4x2x2 w/ DIY Cabinet
Finally going to upgrade our very old sumpless marine tank!
Almost a year of reading up on how things have changed and looking at what to buy I have started collecting things for the new system. The tank will be located in place of the current tank in an old fireplace that dates back 400 odd years in the middle of our house. The bricks are sealed and the chimney has been blocked off to hang the lights in. Access is a pain but I have long arms and make do! After lots of reading I decided to go with Paul at Fit Filtration for the tank and sump then build my own Cabinet. Here is the plan. System Spec: Tank and Sump
Cabinet and Frame
Lighting
Flow and Filtration
Heating
Dosing and Top Up
I started off playing with Google Sketch where I accidently drew a 5ft Tank but manually changed the measurements to 4ft as I didn't want to start again. ![]() Pretty sure the sump baffles are all wrong but this is just to give me a rough idea of what I want it to look like! I know there will be very limited space under the tank but I wanted to max out the system volume and I have space next to the tank to build another cabinet to house more things in. Feedback good and bad is very much welcomed! I will update with more pictures as progress is made! |

Some more pictures from Paul!
Glass Weir going in. On Paul's advice we have opted to remove the Refugium/DSB section to allow more space for the skimmer, filter sock and go for some reactors instead! The Top Up Section is around 38L. Going to try and get some work done on my Cabinet over the weekend! |

Decided to put my STC-1000 together last night.
Made myself a wiring diagram and got it checked the other day in another thread. ![]() Started by marking out and then Dremeling the holes. STC Slides in nice! Cut the extension lead in half and wire in as per diagram. Jobs a good'un! No plans to run any cooling as low ambient temperature in tank location and LED lighting (Current tank is fine with MH) but can always add at a later date if I need it. |

Got my frame finished today in matt black with holes drilled and tapped ready for mounting the panels.
![]() Most of the panels are primed and painted, still need to sand down and get a good finish but really pleased with the coverage of the matt paint!
