Which is best?

I will be running potentiometers for the foreseeable but may consider a controller in the future...

I believe the D dims from 10% to 100%, but not down to 0. Not sure about the P.

I would think the D would be easier to dim 0-10V using a pot.

You would need something like an Arduino to provide a PWM signal for the P though. These aren't that expensive though ~£15. But I'm pretty sure the P will dim down to 0. Best check this bit first.

I think the p driver suffers from the 10% dimming issue too - as far as I know anyway. Would be worth checking before purchase though - I'm sure someone on here can confirm it either way.

If you look at the spec sheet

You'll see the D goes down to about 5% and the P to 15%

If you may go with a controller in future it would be a good ideal to decide on which you would use before selecting a driver as they require different controllers, one needing a PWM signal ant the other 0-10v.

Some of the Recom drivers will run from either type of controller but they tend to be more expensive.

The P doesn't dim with a pot, it needs a PWM signal. Or it can be run at its max set current by supplying a constant 10v to the dim wire.

I say set current as both the P and D version have an internal pot, accessed by removing the top cover, which can be used to set the current.

The D can be used with the correct controller.
